Hatch Show Print inspired music poster

Hatch Show Print inspired poster for the Spanish singer Rosalia.
Pink flowers with golden accents decorate the background. The delicate light pink represents the hopeless romantic side of Rosalia which peeks out in her songs “Como un G” and “Pienso en tu mira.” The gold, reminiscent of prestige and divinity, that decorates the inside of the pink flowers perfectly matches the image of the singer.
Rosalia’s black and white picture appears in the foreground. The singer is holding a dahlia, similar to the ones that decorate the background, that covers her right eye. The flower seems to show vulnerability, but by covering her eye it’s almost as if it was a characteristic to hide, or simply, not show easily. Her strong look invites the viewer to dive into the hypnotizing experience of her music.
Final
Sketches
Comp 1 using vibrant color palette similar to the original Hatch Show Print posters.
Comp 2 implements different display typefaces similar to the ones seen in Hatch Show Print posters. The fan in the background was handmade and incorporated in the poster for texture.
Artist Statement
Rosalia Villa I Tobella, known simply as Rosalia is a Spanish singer and songwriter. She spent more than a decade training flamenco with one of the world’s oldest and most complex musical art forms. Whenever I listen to her voice singing it sounds as if she’s pulling her heart out through her mouth. It’s an emotional vulnerability that cannot be faked. In my poster, I wanted to mimic flamenco’s intoxicating allure. The dark vivid red of the text and margin gives a sense of physical passion similar to the one the artist emanated when singing. Red is violence, anger, and aggression. To me, the abstract characteristics of the color red mimic the power of flamenco.
